Cupping Therapy | Salt Lake City
What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping is a form of negative pressure massage. There are different forms of cupping including fire cupping where heat is used with glass cups to create the suction. Our treatments include the use of silicone cups. One placed, the cups create suction with facilitates the release of restrictions in soft tissue as well as increases circulation to the area. Forcing the stagnant blood (which accompanies tight, painful, dysfunctional muscles and fascia) to the surface allows the body to “drain” it. This allows new blood carrying oxygen and nutrients to flow to the area and repair and heal the tissues. Because cupping therapy sedates the nervous system, it is a great treatment for pain, chronic stress and high blood pressure.
Cupping Therapy Can:
Reduce Tension Headaches
Relieve Pain from Compressed Nerves
Reduce Muscle Pain
Enhance Range of Motion
Treat Shoulder Impingement
Lower High Blood Pressure
What are the cupping marks all about?
Cupping has the potential to mimic a deep tissue massage in that you may experience some soreness the following day. The amount of suction applied is adjustable — the more suction applied, the deeper into the tissues it pulls blood. When the blood is pulled to the surface, it will potentially leave lingering red marks behind. They look like bruises but they are not, as bruises hurt and cupping marks do not. They will gradually disappear in one to three weeks.
Treatment Recommendations:
Cupping is safe to receive regularly, 2-3 times a month is a good starting point for most conditions. For optimal results, pair it with another service such as massage or stretch therapy.
