Corrective Exercise for Posture and Pain Relief

Book a Movement and Exercise Screen to Get Started

Posture Therapy & Functional Movement Training | Salt Lake City

A corrective exercise is a movement chosen based on an individual’s screen test, that improves a specific muscle dysfunction or movement compensation. A movement compensation is when a “weak energy link” in a movement pattern (say squatting down) in one part of the body causes unnecessary work in another part of the body. This places added stress on certain muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments and can lead to injury and pain. Effective corrective exercise focuses on these weak links by training the proper channels —  mobility, stability and motor control. This leads to proper muscle and joint balance, relieving aches and pain that have settled in over time.

What is a Functional Movement Screen (FMS)?

Functional Movement Screen (FMS) was developed as a way to identify movement compensations that occur due to asymmetries in the body. The FMS aims to identify imbalances in mobility and stability during seven basic movement patterns. The full program is intended to reduce the risk of injury, improve performance, and reduce chronic pain. FMS was created to serve many different populations to reduce the risk of injury and improve movement patterns. Participating in the program benefits anyone from a competitive athlete or weekend warrior to youth and aging populations alike.

Watch the short video below to get a glimpse of the FMS screening process and how it can benefit you.

The Movement Screen

A functional movement screen identifies muscle imbalances and asymmetries contributing to pain, repeat injury, and plateaus in training. We use the FMS screening system and other postural and movement screens to evaluate your current quality of movement. The results from the screen will be used to develop your highly personalized CoreEx™ program.

Bodywork and movement must be combined to make lasting changes in the body. This is scientifically proven!

The Anatomy of Wellness' Signature CoreEx™ Program:

The Sessions

60-minute sessions that include corrective exercise instruction in addition to other beneficial therapies such as PNF-assisted stretching and clinical massage therapy to correct soft tissue dysfunctions at the core cause. Typically, work is done over the course of weeks and months as the muscles become educated and adapt to new movement and firing patterns.

Lengthen Tight Muscles

"Tight" muscles are inhibited with myofascial rolling techniques such as foam rolling. Then PNF or static stretching will be applied to the overactive muscles.

Strengthen Weak Muscles

Muscles that have been "turned off" and weak will become re-educated and strengthened to gain healthy contraction capabilities.

Kinesio Tape

Your therapist may use kinesio tape to aid in movement training and pain relief where applicable.

Home Exercise Program

Your Exercise Specialist will design a home exercise program (HEP) for you based on the results of your movement screen. These targeted exercises combined with clinical massage therapy are the secret sauce in making lasting changes in the soft tissues of the body. Your HEP is monitored by your therapist and progressions and tweaks will be made as needed.

Re-screen
Re-assessment screens are performed as needed to document progress and updated your treatment plan as you progress.
